Ben Cooper scored in the final minute to lift the Barry University men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over Incarnate Word Thursday night.
The Crusaders held a 13-5 advantage in shots and 8-1 in corners, but the Buccaneers scratched a pair of goals to earn the win.
After a scoreless first period, the Crusaders grabbed a 1-0 lead in the 56th minute. Rico Lara's corner found Blair Scoullar in the box and he touched it past Barry keeper
Ron Goguen for the goal.
The Bucs got even in the 69th minute when the Crusaders failed to successfully clear the ball and
James Ryan's chest pass was collected by
Joey Burg who proceeded to beat Justin Terwilleger, the Crusaders' keeper.
With the game heading toward an apparent overtime,
Mike Lupton squirted a ball through the Crusaders' defense to a running Cooper whose shot skipped past Terwilleger for the game-winner with less than a minute to play.
Goguen earned the win in goal, making five saves for Barry (9-1-3). Terwilleger had two saves for Incarnate Word (8-8-0).
Barry is back in action on Saturday against St. Edward's at 5:00 pm.
