Markel Edwards joined Barry University's athletic department in August 2026 as the Manager of Athletic Communications. Edwards will help coordinate broadcasts for the department and will serve as the primary contact for men's & women's lacrosse.
Prior to coming to the shores, he worked as an athletic communications graduate assistant at New England College. During that time he worked with all 24 sports offered at the institution, contributing efforts towards broadcast production, game day operations, statistics, and record books. Other aspects of athletic communications he would assist with pertained to social media management of the athletic department (Instagram, X, Facebook), graphic design, videography projects involving weekly highlight videos as well as contributing to the end of the year video for the athletic departments award ceremony.
In 2022, Edwards served as an athletic communications graduate assistant at D'Youville University where he was responsible for men's soccer, men's volleyball, men's basketball, and men's & women's lacrosse.Â
Edwards got his foot in the door within the athletic communications industry dating back to the fall semester of 2021 as an intern at Alfred University. His duties as an intern during that point in time were PA announcing, editing bios, stating men's & women's soccer games along with stat calling for football and volleyball.Â
In addition, Edwards earned his BA in Sport Management in 2021 from SUNY Alfred State College. He expanded his academic resume by acquiring his MBA in Sports and Recreation Management at New England College.
