Christina Oyawale joined the volleyball staff as assistant coach in the spring of 2022 after three seasons at Clarkson University in New York.
Oyawale helped lead the Knights to a 48-16 record and back-to-back trips to the NCAA Tournament. In 2019, the Knights went 28-6, won the regional championship and advanced to the Division III final field. Oyawale and head coach Carol LaMarche were named the Liberty League’s Coaching Staff of the Year.
Although the 2020 season was canceled due to the pandemic, the Knights returned in 2021 to go 20-10 and reach the regional semifinals.
In her three years, nine Knights were named to the All-Liberty League teams, 16 earned All-Academic list, five were named AVCA All-America and three claimed CoSIDA Academic All-America awards.
Oyawale graduated from Syracuse University in 2018 with a degree in information management and technology. She helped the Orange reach the NCAA Tournament for the first time in program history in 2018.
Over the course of four years at Syracuse, Oyawale compiled 257 kills, and 167 total blocks, averaging 0.93 kills per set and 0.61 blocks per set. Her best performance came during in her third season when she produced 91 blocks and 161 kills in 122 sets with a .268 hitting percentage.
Oyawale also served as a team leader and was involved in numerous extracurricular activities, including shoe drives, breast cancer walks, and membership in the Student-Athlete Advisory Committee.
