Michelle Etchebaster-Martins

Michelle Etchebaster-Martins was named the assistant rowing coach for the Barry Buccaneers in the fall of 2022, after a rowing career in the Bucs' varsity crew. During her first fall, she helped the Buccaneers earn a 9th place at the 2022 Head of the Charles in the women's collegiate fours event. The Bucs were first among the NCAA Division II boats finishing ahead of ERAU, Jefferson, and Franklin Pierce. 

Etchebaster-Martins brings more than 13 years of experience as a collegiate and international rower. She was a member of the Argentinian National Team in 2013 and 2014 and served on the Bucs' crew from 2017-2021. A four-time Argentinian champion, she earned three silver medals in the South American championships. She sat in the Varsity 8 for the Bucs at the 2018 NCAA Regatta and rowed in the Head of the Charles Regatta in 2017 and 2018.

She served as a rowing coach in her native Argentina from 2014-15, leading the junior rowing team at Club Mendoza de Regatas and doing individual instruction sessions with novice rowers. In addition to her coaching experience, Etchebaster-Martins has served as a Teaching and Research Assistant in the department of Sport and Exercise Science at Barry University since 2020. Her research projects focus on rowing biomechanics to reduce injury risk, and physiological characteristics of rowers to improve sport performance. 

Etchebaster-Martins earned her bachelor's degree from Barry in Exercise Physiology in May of 2021 and is currently pursuing her master's in Human Performance and Wellness in The Shores. She is also a Certified Exercise Physiologist (ACSM EP-C) since 2021. Â
