Ivan Barriga has been promoted to full-time assistant coach on the Barry University men’s soccer coaching staff in the fall of 2020.
Barriga spent the 2019 season as a volunteer assistant with the Buccaneers, after playing the 2017-and 2018 seasons. As a volunteer, he assisted the staff with training sessions, recruiting, scouting and video analysis.
In his five seasons, Barry has posted a 38-30-6 record, 23-12-3 in the Sunshine State Conference. Barry won the SSC regular season championships in 2022 and 2023, marking the first time that the Bucs have won back-to-back titles. They also captured the SSC Tournament title in 2023, marking the first time that they won both championships in the same year.
The Bucs have had 13 All-SSC players under Barriga, including the 2023 Player of the Year (David Polanco); Defensive Player of the Year (Iker Berruezo), and Keeper of the Year (Rafael Furlani). Barry also captured the 2022 Freshman of the Year (Nicolas Villalobos) and 2021 Freshman of the Year (Juan Caffaro). In 2023, he was part of the conference Coaching Staff of the Year.
Barriga played in 20 games, starting six, for the Bucs. He was part of the 2018 NCAA Division II National Championship squad. He was part of seven shutouts during his career. Prior to Barry, he played two seasons at Florida National, helping the Conquistadors to the USCAA National Championship game. During his time in Argentina, he played a year and a half for the U-20 team in national and local competitions.
In addition to his coaching with the Bucs, he also worked as the head coach for the Miami Shores SC U17 Girls and the Hollywood Cyclones U8-18 Boys. He led the Cyclones to more than 20 trophies with different age groups in his time with the club.
He is a 2019 Barry University graduate with a degree in sport management & business administration.
