Alex Williams was tabbed to start the lacrosse program at Barry University in the fall of 2025. Williams brings almost 10 years of NCAA Division II lacrosse experience to The Shores, as the Buccaneers get set to launch their program.
Williams comes to Barry after serving two seasons at Lander University in South Carolina, first as assistant coach and later as associate head coach and offensive coordinator for the Bearcats. Williams was the main architect of the Bearcat offense in 2025, as they finished in the top-ten nationally in assists per game, man-up offense, points per game, scoring offense, and shooting percentage.
Williams was part of the conference’s coaching staff of the year in 2025 as the Bearcats won the Peach Belt regular season title and reached the tournament championship game. Lander boasted both the conference offensive and defensive player of the year.
Prior to Lander, he served as head coach at The College of Saint Rose from July of 2021 until the school's closure in June 2024. In three seasons, Williams mentored 11 All-NE10 Selections, four All-NE10 Academic All-Conference selections, the 2023 Rookie of the Year. Prior to his time at Saint Rose, Williams also served as an assistant coach at both Frostburg State University for two years and at his alma mater Roberts Wesleyan College for three.
Williams was a four-year starter for the Redhawk lacrosse team from 2012-15. As a senior, Williams started all 14 contests with 21 ground balls and 20 caused turnovers. He started 14 games and scooped up 18 ground balls throughout his junior campaign.
He obtained his bachelor's from Roberts Wesleyan in cross disciplinary studies with a concentration in business administration in 2015 and his master's degree in sports management from Frostburg State in 2021.
