Benny Fernandez

Benny Fernandez joined the Buccaneer coaching staff in the summer of 2018.

He assists the staff in all aspects of the program including on the floor coaching, recruiting, social media marketing and basketball operations.

He came to Barry from Miami Christian School, where he spent three years from 2015-17 and led the Victors to the 2016-17 Florida 2A state championship where he served as an assistant coach. The team finished with a 30-2 record and was ranked as high as 15th in the nation by Maxpreps. Miami Christian is the same high school current Buccaneer Marcelo Perez attended.

He also worked with the Miami Tropics AAU team from 2014-17, where he coached current Buccaneer Tylan Birts. The Tropics have sent numerous players to play college basketball and is well recognized in the South Florida basketball community.

He also served a coaching stint at Princeton Christian School as the head coach from 2013-15, where they won the district championship in the 2014-15 season and made two appearances in the Class 2A regional tournament both seasons at the helm.

He graduated with a bachelor’s degree in education, sport administration in 2008 from the University of Miami where he was a member of the football team as a tight end.

He also holds two masters degrees, he earned a MBA degree from the Gies College of Business at the University of Illinois in 2019, specializing in strategic management and entrepreneurship and he earned a master's degree from the University of Miami in liberal studies in 2012 while serving as a football assistant from 2011-12.

In addition to volunteering with the Bucs, he works as the Kavo Kerr Endodontics Manager for Envista Holdings Corporation in South Florida, a Fortune 500 company. Â
