James Karr joined intercollegiate athletics in the fall of 2022 as the assistant coordinator in Sports Performance alongside Coordinator of sports performance Alexa Garcia, and the 250-plus student athletes.Â
In the role, Karr will be responsible for men’s and women’s Basketball and men’s Soccer strength and conditioning throughout the year. He will be designing and implementing speed, agility, conditioning and lifts. Karr believes in a ground-based approach, focusing on training the kinetic chain through loaded coordinated movements that transfer to speed and power development. He wants to drive values that shape habits and behaviors that lead to winning on and off the field.
Prior to Barry University, Karr coached with the Florida Atlantic football team strength and conditioning staff. While at FAU, James also helped with Pro Day, Combine and NFL off-season training for FAU alumni and other professional players.
Before FAU, Karr worked in the private sector for 10 years in Los Angeles, programming and coaching numerous high school and college athletes in several different sports.Â
In college, Karr was a four-year letterman in men’s soccer at Marshall. He then transferred and graduated from Florida State, obtaining a Bachelor’s of Science degree in human science.Â
At home, James is married to his wife Pam and has two sons, Bear and Julian.
