Prior to Barry, Rodriguez was a four-year starter at Wake Forest University. Rodriguez played in 171 career games, and made 144 total starts with the Demon Deacons. He had a .254 career average, 38 doubles, nine home runs, 68 RBI, 107 runs scored, 22 stolen bases and 145 hits. He had a .977 career fielding percentage, spending time in the outfield and at second base.

Rodriguez received his Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Wake Forest in 2016.
