Alex Gonzalez

Alex Gonzalez was named assistant coach and pitching coach at Barry in 2011.

Gonzalez helped architect a phenomenal campaign in 2011 in which Barry's pitching staff was one of the best in the nation, ranking ninth in walks per game (2.55), and 10th in hits allowed (585). The Bucs also led the Sunshine State Conference with a 3.38 earned run average en route to a 40-17 mark.

Under Gonzalez’s guidance, pitchers Manny Rodriguez and Corey Witkowski both earned First-Team All-SSC honors in 2011. Witkowski went on to become the South Region Pitcher of the Year as named by Daktronics, while Manny Rodriguez became a 10th round pick in the Major League Baseball Draft.

During the summer of 2011, Gonzalez served as the pitching coach for the Bourne Braves of the Cape Cod League. With the Braves, Gonzalez coached three of the top collegiate pitchers in the country including the NCAA Division I Pitcher of the Year, Ryan Eades of LSU. Under his guidance, the Braves’ staff posted a 2.76 ERA.

Prior to joining the Bucs’ staff, Gonzalez owned Evolution Sports Performance, a company which helped athletes enhance performance using ethical means.

Gonzalez enjoyed an outstanding four-year career with the Bucs. He became one of only three pitchers in school history to win 20 games, and set the school record for career strikeouts with 285. His senior year was one of the best in the program's history as he went 9-3 with a 2.36 ERA and 121 strikeouts in 101 innings. He set the single-season strikeout record that year.

He was named First-Team All-Sunshine State Conference and All-South Region.

He signed as a free agent with the Boston Red Sox after his senior year with the Buccaneers, and pitched in the minor league system for one year.

Gonzalez graduated from Barry in 2005 with an undergraduate degree in human performance.
