INDIANAPOLIS -- The Barry Buccaneers (22-0) were awarded the number one seed in the NCAA Division II Men's Tennis National Tournament's Round of 16.

The tournament will begin on May 20 in Surprise, Ariz., hosted by Surprise Tennis & Racquet Complex., with the Bucs taking on #16 Jefferson (18-6) at 11:00 am.

Barry, the regular-season and tournament champions in the Sunshine State Conference, advanced to the finals by winning the South Region 1 Tournament with a 4-1 win over SSC rival Saint Leo.

The Bucs are led by #2 Yan Kodjoed, #16 Riccardo Trione and #33 Adam Lynch in singles, while the doubles team of Trione and Simone Cavalleri is ranked #19 by the ITA.

The Buccaneers are making their 20th trip to the national finals, having won seven championships and finished runner-up seven more times. Their 14 appearances in the title match are the most for any NCAA Division II Program. Their overall record in 31 appearances in the national tournament is 108-25. The 108 wins are the most of any program in D-II history, while their seven titles are tied for second with Southern Illinois-Edwardsville, one behind the record of eight held by Lander.

The Rams, seeded third at the Atlantic Region 2 Tournament after winning the regular-season and tournament titles in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference, upset host and second-seed Fairmont State 4-2 to earn the trip to Surprise.

None of the Rams' players or doubles team are ranked by the ITA.

This match will mark the first-ever meeting with the Rams, who advanced to the field of 16 for the third time in four seasons. Their overall record in nine total appearances in the championship is 6-8, and they have gone 0-2 in two previous trips to the finals.

The winner of the match will face the winner of #8 UIndy and #9 Azuza Pacific in the quarterfinals on Thursday, May. 21, with the semifinals on Saturday, May 23 and the championship on Sunday, May 24.
