Women's Tennis Pushes Past Conference Rival NSU

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The top-ranked Barry University women's tennis team earned a 4-1 victory over No. 6 Nova Southeastern, advancing to the championship match of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Bucs came out strong, securing wins in the bottom two doubles flights to take a 1-0 lead into singles play.
  • The Sharks responded to even the score at 1-1, as No. 1 Hranacova defeated No. 39 Crespo in straight sets, 6-0, 6-1.
  • Barry quickly regained control when No. 6 Heimen delivered a 6-2, 6-2 victory over No. 40 Markus.
  • No. 31 Michalitsch followed, defeating Dadoun 6-3, 6-2 to put the Bucs just one point away from clinching.
  • Anger sealed the win for Barry with a 6-4, 6-3 victory over Sagadiyeva. 
  • With the match decided, the remaining singles contests were left unfinished.

NOTEWORTHY:

  •  Michalitsch is undefeated in singles this season with a perfect 9-0 record. 
  • Dema is also undefeated in singles with a 7-0 record. 
  • The doubles duo of Lutringer and Crespo is now 8-2 in doubles for the season.

 The Bucs will play No. 2 Embry-Riddle tomorrow at the NSU Tennis Center for the Sunshine State Conference Tournament Championship.
