Baseball Clubs Warriors To Close Out Russ Matt

AUBURNDALE, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers closed the Russ Matt Baseball Classic with an 11-6 win over the Winona State Warriors on Saturday at Lake Myrtle Park.

  • T2 - Cal Casper tripled to drive in two runs and later scored on an error to give the Warriors an early lead.  | WSU 3, Barry 0
  • B3 - The Bucs got one run back in the third. Dyson Joseph double to left and later scored on a wild pitch. | WSU 3, Barry 1
  • T4 - The Warriors answered back with a run in the fourth, as Payton Kohnle scored on a wild pitch. | WSU 4, Barry 1
  • B4 - The Buccaneers broke open the game in the bottom of the inning, sending 12 men to the plate and scoring seven runs. After a walk to Erik Blair, Anthony Tralongo and Josh Hungler hit back-to-back doubles to pull the Bucs to within one. Two outs later, Zavier Hatfield singled, sending Hungler to third, and then swiped second. Brady Blanks put the Bucs on top with a two-run single. After another single by Jalen Smith, Blake Opie smashed his ninth homer of the season for an 8-4 edge the Bucs would not relenquish. | Barry 8, WSU 4
  •  T6 - Ethan Patterson manufactured a run for the Warriors in the sixth. He singled, stole second and scored on a base hit by Easton Arendt. | Barry 8, WSU 5
  • B6 - Barry got the run back in the bottom of the inning. Blair scored on an single by Aramis Ramirez, Jr. | Barry 9, WSU 5
  • T7 - The first two batters of the seventh walked, with Adam Wall finally scoring on a ground out. | Barry 9, WSU 6
  • B8 - Tralongo was hit by a pitch and Ramirez walked. Joseph doubled to left to drive in Tralongo and Ramirez scored on a ground out. | Barry 11, WSU 6

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Sean Driscoll (3-1) worked five innngs, allowing four runs (three earned) on six hits and three walks. He struck out five to earn his third win.
  • Nate Vela (1-3) took the loss for the Warriors, giving up eight runs on seven hits and four walks in 3.2 innings.
  • Joseph went 3-for-4 with two doubles, a run scored and an RBI.
  • Tralongo had two hits and scored twice. Blair also had two runs, while Opie drove in three.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs host the Florida Tech Panthers on Tuesday in a mid-week, non-conference match up.
