Women's Basketball Loses To Knights

BOCA RATON, Fla. --  The Barry Buccaneers fell 73-63 to the Lynn Fighting Knights in Sunshine State Conference women's basketball action at the de Hoernle Center on Saturday.

SUMMARY:

  • 1Q - The Bucs went up 4-0 early on baskets by Akvile Babraityte and Jazz Cook and led 12-6 with 4:45 left in the period. But the Knights rallied for eight of the next 12 points to cut the lead to one at the break.  | Barry 16, Lynn 14
  • 2Q - With the BUcs up two, 19-17, the KNight went on an 11-3 run over the five minutes to take a six-point lead, and carried a five-point margin into the break.  | Lynn 34, Barry 29
  • 3Q - Kendall Parker cut the lead to three with a bucket at the 8:05 mark of the third. But Lynn scored 14 of the next 22 points to push the lead to double figures, 52-40 on a basket from Alana Francis at the 1:46 mark. Hannah Wentworth made it 13 points with a triple at the 1:12 mark.   • 4Q - Lynn push the lead out to their largest margin on a jumper by Karishma Ortiz with 3:04 to play. Barry scored seven straight to halve the lead. Parker hit a three-pointer with 1:11 to play. But the Knights hit 6-of-8 from the free throw line and the Barry only managed to hit 1-of-2 from the field in the last minute. | Lynn 73, Barry 63

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Paola Pareja Xargayo led Barry with 18 points, while Parker added 15 and Kornelia Ignerska had 11 points and seven assists.  
  • Trinity Mocadlo led Lynn with 24 points and Wentworth and Emily Jean Glaude each had 12.
  • The Knights out-score Barry from the line, hitting 14-of-19, while the Bucs shot just 4-for-12.

ON THE HORIZON:
The Bucs host the defending champions, Tampa Spartans on Wednesday, Feb. 11.
