JV Earns Its First Win Of The Season After Splitting Doubleheader Against United International

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers JV squad earned its first win of the season after splitting the doubleheader against United International. After falling short in the first game by a score of 3-2, they bounced back with a 20-10 win that ended in five innings on a Monday afternoon at Feinbloom Field in junior varsity baseball action.

  • T5 - With runners on the corners after an error by Frank Planer at third and a double by Leyfi Castillo, Alfonso Carrasco reached on a throwing error by Luis Sousa that led to two runners scoring to break the tie. | United International 2, Barry 0
  • T6 - After Planer moved from third to pitcher, Leroy Escalante hit a home run to deep center field to extend the lead. | United International 3, Barry 0

  • B1 - The Buccaneers got off to a fast start, with Preston Haase tripling to right center, scoring Arzeno and Matt Cox. Tony Gil then reached on a throwing error by third baseman Raymond Santana, scoring Haase. Anthony Mancuso followed up and knocked a double down the left field line, scoring Adrian Couce and Gil. With the bases loaded, Sousa walked, scoring Mancuso, and after batting around, Arzeno came back up to bat and hit an infield single that scored Ian Hurt and Will Myers. | Barry 8, United International 0
  • T2 - Angel De Aza scored on a wild pitch. | Barry 8, United International 1
  • B2 - Haase continued his busy afternoon with a single down the third base line, and another throwing error by Santana allowed Cox to score from first. Haase eventually scored after a sacrifice fly from Couce. | Barry 10, United International 1
  • T3 - Back-to-back doubles by Eduardo Romero and Julio Fuentes scored three runs to start a big inning for United International. De Aza then reached on a fielding error by Haase, scoring Fuentes. Joshua Guerrero followed with the third double of the inning to right-center field, scoring D'shaundre Hillarious. Elmer Duarte reached on a throwing error by Gil, scoring Guerrero. Zach Cowart capped off the inning with another double to right-center, scoring Duarte. | Barry 10, United International 8
  • B3 - Barry responded with five runs of their own that started with a single from Arzeno to shallow center field, where Hurt was able to score after a fielding error Jose Compres. Haase stayed hot with a single to shallow right field, scoring Sousa, and Arzeno scored on a throwing error by Duarte. Couce capped off the inning with a single to shallow center, scoring Cox and Haase. | Barry 15, United International 5
  • T5 - Romero singled through the middle, scoring Guerrero and Cowart. | Barry 15, United International 10
  • B5 - Arzeno started the scoring in the fifth for Barry, by scoring on a wild pitch. With bases loaded, Myers was hit by a pitch, scoring Cox. Hurt followed shortly after with a bases-clearing double down the right field line to end the game via mercy rule. | Barry 20, United International 10

  • Frank Planer (0-1) took the loss in game one for the Bucs, allowing one run on three hits in 2.0 innings.
  • Leroy Escalante homered for United International, giving them their only earned run of the game.
  • Luis Sousa had a two-hit game in game one for the Bucs.
  • Gabriel Mendez (1-0) earned the win for United International, allowing one run on three hits and four strikeouts in 2.2 innings of work.
  • Fernando Larralde got the save for United International, giving up one run on two hits and two walks.
  • Aiden McCarthy (1-1) earned the first win of the season for the Bucs, allowing five runs (four earned) on four hits and four strikeouts in 2.1 innings of work.
  • Mauricio Fragozo (0-1) took the loss for United International, giving up 10 runs (nine earned) on four hits, seven walks, and one strikeout in 1.0 inning.
