MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers baseball team opened their Sunshine State schedule with a 2-0 win over the Nova Southeastern Sharks at Feinbloom Field Friday night.

- B8 - Barry finally broke open a scoreless game in the eighth inning off Shark starter Federico Zapata (0-1). Aramis Ramirez, Jr., who was 2-for-3 on the night, led off with a single to shallow right field. Ben Rhode came on to run for him. One out later, Zavier Hatfield ripped a single through the right side, sending Rhode to third and taking second on the throw. The Sharks intentionally walked Brady Blanks to load the bases and Jalen Smith came through with a sacrifice fly to left center to score Rhode. NOTEWORTHY:
- Sean Driscoll (1-0) worked two scoreless innings on one hit, while striking out three in relief of starter Jack Ensell to earn his second win of the season.
- Ensell twirled a gem for six innings, holding the Sharks to two hits and two walks while striking out 14. His strikeouts rank fourth all-time in Buccaneer history and are the most since Mike Reagan whiffed 15 in the South Regional against West Florida in 2023.
- Zapata, who took the loss, also pitched well on the night, working into the eighth before getting knocked around. He allowed two runs on five hits and two walks in 7.2 innings, striking out nine.
- John Perozzi worked a scoreless ninth, striking out one for his fourth save. He and Driscoll set down nine of the last 11 batters they faced.
- Ramirez led the Bucs at the plate with two hits.
- The Bucs have posted two shutouts so far this season, the most since they shutout Lane (16-0), Palm Beach Atlantic (8-0) and Georgia Southwestern (5-0) in 2023.
