Baseball Stuns Sharks In SSC Series Opener

DAVIE, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers stunned the Nova Southeastern Sharks 7-3 in the opener of their Sunshine State Conference baseball series at the NSU Baseball Complez on Friday night.

  • T2 - Savi Delgado hit a solo homer with one out in the second to put the Bucs on the board first. | Barry 1, NSU 0
  • T3 - Barry chased NSU ace Kyler Gonzalez (3-5) in the third inning. Jimmy Bruno singled to lead off the inning, stole second and later scored on a fly out. With two aboard, Delgado ripped a double to left center to make it 4-0. | Barry 4, NSU 0
  • B6 -  The Sharks finally got on the board in the sixth as Zeth Rodriguez hit a two-run homer. | Barry 4, NSU 2
  • T8 - Bary got on run back in the eighth inning. Matthew Menendez drew a leadoff walk, went to third on an errant pick-off throw from reliever Christopher Perez and scored on a sacrifice fly by Aramis Ramirez, Jr. | Barry 5, NSU 2

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Billy Eich (5-3) struck out a season-high 10 batters in seven innings to earn the win for the Bucs. He allowed two runs on four hits and two walks.
  • Gonzalez took the loss for NSU. In allowed four runs on four hits and four walks in 2.2 innings.
  • Delgado led the Bucs at the plate, going 3-for-4 with a single, double, homer and four RBI.
  • Bruno and Vargas Segura each had two hits and Turner drove in two runs.
  • Nick Rodriguez had two hits to lead the Sharks, while Zeth Rodriguez had the only two RBI on his sixth-inning homer.
  • The win is the first of the season against the Sharks, as NSU won both non-conference games.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bteams will conclude the series on Saturday with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 pm.
