INDIANAPOLIS – Barry University's men's tennis team earned the third seed in the NCAA South Region Tennis Tournaments after capturing the Sunshine State Conference Tournament and the automatic bid for the SSC.
The Buccaneers (18-3) will face their SSC rival, the #6 seeded Florida Southern in the first round on Friday, May 9. The Bucs defeated Florida Southern twice on the season. They won 5-2 in Lakeland, Fla., in the regular season match and 4-1 over the Mocs in the SSC Tournament final.
Barry enters the postseason on a strong note, with wins over ranked opponents including Saint Leo, Embry-Riddle, and Rollins. The winner of the match will take on the winner of the #2 West Florida and #7 Mississippi College.
Buccaneer History
The Buccaneers are making their 30th NCAA Tournament appearance this year. Barry has captured five NCAA national championships (2010, 2013, 2019, 2022, 2023) and finished as runner-up seven times. They have also earned 15 South Region titles, solidifying their legacy as a powerhouse in Division II tennis.
Over the last three decades, Barry has been a model of consistency and excellence, producing over 50 ITA All-Americans and nearly 100 All-SSC selections, including SSC Players of the Year like three-time winner Ahmed Triki (2014–2015, 2017), Alessandro Giuliato (2021), Marko Mokrzycki (2013), Thomas Hipp (2006) and Sebastian Losavio (2005).
