Barry JV Takes Two from Inspiration, 11-1 and 4-1

A dominant Game 1 and a steady Game 2 secured a convincing doubleheader sweep for Barry JV.

SUMMARY:
Game One | Buccaneers 11, IA 1

  • T1: Inspiration got on the board with an RBI single up the middle.
  • B1: Ben Rhode led off the bottom half with a walk and stole second. Zac Pyles followed with a line drive at the pitcher, reaching first and moving Rhode to third. Pyles then stole second, and a throwing error by the first baseman brought in Rhode. Shawn Flynn hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Pyles.
  • B3: Aidan Correa drew a walk to start the third and stole second. Anthony Vizzini brought him home with a double to center. Pyles singled through the left side to advance Vizzini, then stole second. Flynn hit a line drive to right-center, scoring both Vizzini and Pyles.
  • B4: Correa started the inning with a walk and advanced to third on a double down the right field line by Rhode. Vizzini followed with a single up the middle, driving in both Correa and Rhode. Pyles and Flynn walked to load the bases, and Hector Vilorio hit a sacrifice fly to bring in Vizzini. Jeremy Ortiz then doubled over the right fielder's head, scoring Pyles and Flynn.
  • B5: Correa ripped a single to the shortstop and stole second. Pyles followed with a sacrifice fly to score Correa and end the game.

Game Two | Buccaneers 4, IA 1 

  • T5: Inspiration scored on a wild pitch.
  • B6: Zac Pyles reached on a throwing error by the third baseman. He was then replaced by pinch runner Hector Vilorio, who stole second and later scored on a wild pitch. Dylan Rose and Eric Vega both walked and stole a base. Aidan Correa ripped a shot between short and third, driving in Rose and Vega. Jonathan Rivera followed with a single into left-center, bringing in Correa.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • In game one, Brenden Hayes earned his second win of the season with a complete game. He pitched five innings, allowing two hits and one earned run. Hayes walked three and struck out four, staying composed on the mound to finish the game strong.
  • Paul Gutierrez earned his second win of the season with a dominant outing on the mound in game two. He pitched six innings, allowing just three hits and one earned run. He didn't issue any walks and struck out nine, showing excellent command and control throughout the game.
  • Zac Pyles went two-for-three at the plate, collecting two hits, scoring one run, and driving in one. He didn't walk or strike out, putting together a steady and efficient offensive performance.
