Baseball Opens Panthers Series With A Win

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers knocked off the Florida Tech Panthers 8-2 in the opener of the Sunshine State Conference baseball series at Feinbloom Field on Friday night.

  • B1 - The Bucs answered back in the bottom of the first. Panther starter Jacob Pino (4-3) hit Harry Vargas Seguera with a pitch and Murchael Turner followed with a single to center. Felix Diaz launched a long double off the base of the wall in left center to score both runners and came home on an RBI single by Nick Toms. |  Barry 3, Florida Tech 1
  • T7 - Barry starter Billy Eich (4-2) carried a no-hitter into the seventh inning, but with two outs, he gave up a single to Anthony Fimiano, walked Connor Wiggins and Jaden Hill knocked in a run with a single to left. | Barry 3, Florida Tech 2
  • B7 - The Bucs responded with three runs, without a hit, in the bottom of the inning. Jimmy Bruno was hit by a pitch and stole second. Vargas Seguera walked, and after a pitching change, Turner walked to load the bases. Bruno scored on a ground ball by Diaz and Vargas Seguera came home when the throw from Wiggins sailed wide.   • B8 - Bruno reached on a dropped popup with two outs. Vargas Seguera and Turner followed with back-to-back RBI doubles to cap the scoring. | Barry 8, Florida Tech 2

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Eich tied for the team lead with his fourth win of the season. He allowed two runs (one earned) on just two hits and four walks and struck out five.
  • Pino, who had to leave the game with an injury after pitching to Diaz in the first, took the loss for the Panthers. In a third of an inning, he gave up three runs on two hits with a hit batsman.
  • Turner led the Bucs with three hits, one more than the Panthers mustered, and scored twice.
  • Bruno also scored twice, while Vargas Seguera had three runs. Diaz drove in three.

The Bucs and Panthers complete their Sunshine State Conference series on Saturday.
