Baseball Drop Season Series Against PBA

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers split the Saturday doubleheader with the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish at Jake Rubin Park in Sunshine State Conference baseball action.

SUMMARY (Game 1):

  • T1 - Barry jumped out to the early lead in the second inning. Felix Diaz doubled to open the frame and Murchael Turner was hit by PBA starter Dane Hall. One out later, Brady King walked to load the bases. Diaz scored on a sacrifice fly by Matthew Menendez and Joe Wike drove in two runs with a single through the left side. Jimmy Bruno lifted a double into right center to score Wike. | Barry 4, PBA 0
  • B1 - The Sailfish cut into the lead with RBI singles by Matt Faranda and Finley Homes. | Barry 3, PBA 2
  • T2 - The Bucs got one back in the second. Bruno doubled with two outs and Vargas Segura followed with an RBI single. | Barry 4, PBA 2
  • T4 - The Bucs added three runs in the fourth, thanks to an error by the 'Fish. With the bases loaded after singles by Joe Wike and Bruno and a walk to Vargas Segura, Noriega drove in Wike with a ground out and another run scored when he reach on an error by Faranda.   • T5 - Matthew Menendez singled and Wike plated the run with a double to center. | Barry 8, PBA 2
  • B9 - After getting touched for two runs in the first, Barry starter Mason Blocker (5-3) posted seven straight scoreless innings, before running into trouble in the ninth. The Sailfish got the leadoff runner aboard on an error by Delgado, and scored three unearned runs on infield singles and an error by Wike. Aiden Ewe came in to get the final batter to foul out. | Barry 8, PBA 5

SUMMARY (Game 2):

  • T3 - Barry opened the scoring in the third inning. Wike was hit by a pitch to lead off and scored, two outs later, on a single by Bruno.  | Barry 1, PBA 0
  • B3 - Trey Miranda knotted the game back up in the bottom of the inning, driv ing McNamara with a single to center. | Barry 1, PBA 1
  • B4 - The Sailfish closed the scoring and took the lead for good in the fourth. McNamara drove in Holmes with a single and Miranda knocked in two more. | | PBA 4, Barry 1

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Blocker worked a season-high 8.2 innings, allowing five runs (two earned) on seven hits and three walks, striking out two in the opener.
  • Foster allowed seven runs (five earned) on nine hits and two walks in four innings to take the loss.
  • The save was the first of the year for Ewe.
  • In the rubber game, Sean Driscoll (3-2) took the loss, allowing four runs on seven hits and a walk in four innings. 
  • Nick Feretic (4-2) held the Bucs to one run on four hits and a walk in six innings, while Isaac Beebe worked the final three scoreless innings for his fourth save.
  • Bruno had four hits, three runs and an RBI to lead the Bucs at the plate.
  • The Sailfish won the season series three games to two, after splitting the non-conference games.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs host the Nova Southeastern Sharks on Monday, Apr. 21, in a game postponed from Apr. 8.
