Offense Helps Softball Roll Past Cougars

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. Barry softball got back on track with a double header sweep over Caldwell on Sunday afternoon from Buccaneer Field. The Bucs improve to a 4-0 record when playing on Sunday.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game One):
  • B1 | The Buccaneers continue to strike first with three in the first go around for the lineup. Back to back hit by pitches on the first two pitches got Mya Tucker and Harper Bunn aboard. Caroline Figueroa singled to left center to load the bases. A sacrifice fly from Brooklyn Rushton scored the first run. Mac Stone-Folmar and Sofia Chamorro hit back to back RBI-singles to score two more. | Barry 3, Caldwell 0
  • B3 | Becka Mellor delivered a two-run double to bring home Stone-Folmar and Chamorro to extend the Buccaneer lead. | Barry 5, Caldwell 0
  • T5 | A fifth run inning tied things up. A three-run triple to clear the bases highlighted the inning. | Barry 5, Caldwell 5
  • B7 | Stone-Folmar came to the rescue with a two-run shot for the Bucs walk off win. | Barry 7, Caldwell 5
NOTEWORTHY (Game One):
  • Stone-Folmar hit her first long ball of the year, seventh career.
  • Isabel Vera picked up the win throwing 2.2 scoreless innings allowing just two hits and tying her career high in strike outs with four.
  • Figueroa, Stone-Folmar and Chamorro all had multi-hit games. 
  • Folmar was responsible for four of the Seven Buccaneer runs.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game Two):
  • T1 | Caldwell took the lead first scoring a run in the top half of the first. | Barry 0, Caldwell 1
  • B1 | Barry quickly scratched for the run back as Becka Mellor reached on base with a single and stole second. Sarah Langlie then drove her in with a single up the middle. | Barry 1, Caldwell 1
  • B2 | Maggie Boyd helped put the Bucs up and get their first lead of the game with an RBI-single to left center to to bring home Chamorro. | Barry 2, Caldwell 1
  • T3 | The Cougars tied things up in the top of the third with a fielder's choice ground ball bringin in a run. | Barry 2, Caldwell 2
  • B3 | The flood gates opened in the bottom half of the third when Barry scored eight runs off seven hits. The inning started with eight straight Buccaneers reaching base. The first three reached on doubles, the next two singles, then a walk. Mya Tucker stole the show in the inning with her first career collegiate home run sending the ball over the right center wall for a grand slam. All eight that reached base came around to score. | Barry 10, Caldwell 2
  • B4 | Another crooked number was put up with four in the fourth off three hits. Paige White doubled in a run. Then Becka Mellor cleared the bases with a triple to right center. | Barry 14, Caldwell 2
  • T5 | The Cougars got one across in their final at bats of the game. | Barry 14, Caldwell 3
NOTEWORTHY (Game Two):
  • Barry had six of their 14 hits be for extra bases.
  • As a team, the Bucs hit the cycle with four doubles, a triple, and a home run.
  • The Buccaneers lead all NCAA with 60 doubles as a team. They are led by Figueroa (13) and Langlie (12).Figueroa is the nation's leader across all divisions.
  • This is Barry's sixth run rule victory of the year.
  • It is the seventh time they score in double figures.

ON THE HORIZON

Barry will hit the road next week, getting back into Sunshine State Conference action against St. Leo.
