Baseball Wins Twice To Extend Streak To Five Games

Bucs beat Tiffin and Northwood at Russ Matt Baseball Classic

WINTER HAVEN, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers won a pair of games at the Russ Matt Baseball Classic on Saturday to extending their winning streak to five games. The Bucs beat Tiffin 5-3 and Northwood 7-2 at Chain of Lakes Park near Orlando, Fla.

SUMMARY:

  • T1 - The Dragons got on the board first inning. Andrew Fairbrother walked and scored ahead of a double by Brayden Clark. | Tiffin 1, Barry 0
  • B1 - Barry responded with three runs in the bottom of the first. The Bucs loaded the bases on a single by Jimmy Bruno, and walks to Murchael Turner and Kendry Noriega. Bruno and Turner scored on an error by Dragon shortstop Luke Westerman and Noriega came home on a fly out. | Barry 3, Tiffin 1
  • T2 - Chavis Conceicao homered with two outs to cut the lead to one. | Barry 3, Tiffin 2
  • B2 - Noriega drove in Joe Wike, who had singled, to get the run back for the Bucs. | Barry 4, Tiffin 2
  • B7 - Harry Vargas Seguera doubled to right center to knock in Felix Diaz, who had beat out an infield hit. | Barry 5, Tiffin 2
  • T8 - The Dragons made one more push in the eighth. Griff Cady hit a solo homer with one out and Scotty Adelman followed with a double to chase Barry starter Aiden Denton (2-1). But Kevin Mebil got the final five outs for his first save.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Denton went 7-1 innings, allowing three runs on seven hits and a walk to earn his second win. He struck out four.
  • Zach Johnson (1-2) took the loss for the Dragons. He gave up four runs on four hits and four walks in 3.0 innings. 
  • Bruno led the Bucs with two hits, while Vargas Seguera had two RBI.

SUMMARY:

  • T1 - Barry jumped out on top in game two with the Timberwolves. Turner doubled with one out and went to third on a single by Noriega. After Noriega swiped second base, Turner trotted home when the throw down went awry. One out later, Vargas Seguera homered to left center. | Barry 3, Northwood 0 
  • B2 - Aidan Robinson ripped an RBI triple to cut the lead to two. | Barry 3, Northwood 1
  • T4 - Diaz was hit by T-wolves starter Grant Lamarche (1-2) to lead off the fourth. After a wild pitch, he scored on a single by Wike. | Barry 4, Northwood 1
  • T5 - Diaz knocked in Zavier Hatfield, who led off with a single to center, with a single of his own. | Barry 5, Northwood 1
  • T7 - Aramis Ramirez, Jr., singled to right to lead off the seventh. After moving up on a ground out and stealing third, he scored on a single by Noriega. | Barry 6, Northwood 1
  • B7 - Robinson knocked in another run for Northwood in the seventh. | Barry 6, Northwood 2

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Mason Blocker (1-2) worked 6.1 innings, allowing two runs on four hits and five walks to earn his first collegiate win.
  • Lamarche took the loss for Northwood. He gave up five runs on seven hits and a walk in 5.0 innings. 
  • Noriega and Ramirez each had two hits to lead the Bucs. Vargas Seguera drove in two.
  • Robinson drove in both runs for the Timberwolves.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs come home on Monday to take on the New Haven Chargers at Feinbloom Field at 6:00 pm.
