Men’s Tennis Wins Debut Match Against Mississippi College

Orlando, Fla. --  The eighth-ranked Barry Buccaneers continued their regular season with their fourth straight win against the 23rd-ranked Mississippi College Choctaws on Thursday afternoon at the USTA Training Center.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Buccaneers lost the doubles point. The Choctaws duo of Rafael Sabio and Alex Blanchard defeated Barry's Thomas Machado and Ariel Meshulam, who were playing their first match, 6-2 at #1. 
  • MC's Florian Walcher and Walker Ellis knocked off Gabriele Felline and Leo Caill 7-5 at #2 to clinch the point.
  • Machado dominated on Court #4, securing a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Walker Ellis for his fifth win of the season.
  • #54 Elie Azoulay trounced Alvaro Saint Martin, sweeping both sets 6-0, 6-3 in court #6.
  • Riccardo Trione controlled play on Court #1, defeating Alex Blanchard 6-2, 6-3 to notch his sixth win of the season.
  • Felline fought through a tough match against Sabio in the second court. Felline won the first set handily 6-3, but Sabio came back to take set two in a tiebreaker 11-9. Felline closed out the match 6-2 in the third set, which also clinched the team match.
  • Caill fell in a hard-fought match against Sergio Ramirez Ocana on Court #5. Caill took the first set 6-4, but Ramirez Ocana rallied to win 7-6(6), 6-4, handing Caill his just second loss of the season.
  • #25 Yan Kodjoed secured the final point for the Bucs in a tight contest against Floyd Walcher, winning 6-7(5), 6-3, 6-4 in court #3.

ON THE HORIZON

The Bucs are heading to Lakeland to face off against their Sunshine State Conference rival Florida Southern on March 22, the match begins at 10 am at the Wynee Warden Tennis Center.
