Men's Volleyball Downs VHawks

MIAMI SHORES, Fla.  Barry Men's Volleyball defeats Viterbo in four sets from the Health and Sports Center on Monday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Set One - Both teams struggled offensively in the set each getting just five kills. The defense helped Barry carry on to the win with seven blocks and forcing 14 attacking errors for the V-Hawks. | Barry 25, Viterbo 13
  • Set Two - The kills started flowing for the Buccaneers as they racked up 15 kills hitting .265 with just six attacking errors. A four point run after falling behind 3-2 helped Barry gain the lead and keep it the remained of the set. Two errors a block from William Phinizy and Elias Fuhrer and a kill by Philip Tein helped boost the 6-3 lead. Viterbo did not go far remaining within three points.Phinizy put away the set with the final kill. Zachary Jabr led the set with five kills. | Barry 25, Viterbo 21
  • Set Three - Viterbo grabbed the lead first taking a 2-0 lead. Barry fell behind 8-12 in the set and had some work to do. Barry scored three straight with two kills from Jabr and a block from Phinizy and Ryan Uridel to take a 19-17 lead.However, the V-Hawks took a four point run of their own with three kills to make it 21-19. They ran off with the set to make it a 2-1 match. | Barry 23, Viterbo 25
  • Set Four - Joao Piazza Baumgartem assumed setting responsibilities in the final set. Jabr got the set started with a kill to give Barry the 1-0 lead. Phinizy added a kill and Jabr notched back to back service aces to take momentum and a 4-1 lead. The Bucs would not trail at all in the set. There were five service aces for Barry and also 13 kills with three blocks. The Bucs had their cleanest set hitting .346 with just four attacking errors. | Barry 25, Viterbo 18

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Zachary Jabr had the best birthday gift with a new career-high in kills, 14. He added three service aces and five blocks. 
  • William Phinizy was right behind with 11 kills and seven digs.
  • Ryan Uridel and Elias Fuhrer led in blocks with seven and six, respectively.
  • Blake and Piazza Baumgartem led in assists with 28 and 12, respectively.

UP NEXT:
The Bucs will close out the regular season with a home match on March 29th against Life at 12:00 p.m. from the Health and Sports Center.
