Softball Breaks Out Brooms for Second Straight SSC Series Sweep

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. Barry Softball continues to trek on with a pair of Sunshine State Conference wins on Saturday afternoon from Buccaneer Field. The Bucs secure their second SSC series sweep and third series win of the season to improve to 8-1 in league play. Game one needed an extra inning to finish, while game two was over from when it started. In between games, Buccaneer senior Brooklyn Rushton was celebrated for her time at Barry.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Game One):
  • B4 | Barry struck first against as a single by Sarah Langlie and a costly error by the Eagles had to runner aboard. Brooklyn Rushton then laid down perfectly placed bunt to load the bases. With two outs, Sofia Chamorro drove a base hit to left field to bring home two. | Barry 2, FSC 0
  • T7 | Embry-Riddle tied things up in the top half of the seventh. A pinching change for the Bucs was quickly overturned as three straight hitters reached. | Barry 2, FSC 2
  • B8 | The heroics once again came with two outs for the Buccaneers. Harper Bunn kept the inning alive with a single to left field to load the bases. Langle then drew the five pitch walk off walk to with the game. | Barry 3, FSC 2
NOTEWORTHY (Game One):
  • Langlie led the way going 3-for-4 reaching safely in her first four of her five plate appearances.
  • It is Langlie's third game winner in extra innings for the Bucs.
  • Angelico earned the win after staring and quickly coming back into relief.
  • She threw 7.2 innings allowed just six hits, no earned runs, had one walk and a season-high six strikeouts.
  • Rushton and Chamorro both had multi-hit games.
  • It was Rushton's seventh two-hit game of the year, which leads the team.
  • All three runs once again came with two outs.
  • The Bucs stranded 10 base runners to the Mocs eight.
  • Barry is 4-0 in extra inning victories.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Game Two):
  • B1 | The flood gates opened early with a five run first. Harper Bunn drew the one out walk to be the first base runner of the game for Barry. Caroline Figueroa then drew a two-out walk and stole second to move into scoring position. Then commenced the two-out rally. Brooklyn Rushton doubled to left field to bring home Bunn and Figueroa. Mac Stone-Folmar traded places with a double of heer own to score Rushton. Sofia Chamorro kept it going with a base hit to right field to bring in Stone-Folmar. Becka Mellor drove in the final run of the inning witth a single to center. | Barry 5, FSC 0
  • B2 | Eight runs in the bottom of the second put this one away early as there were three different pitching changes for the Mocs. Three straight singles led the inning off as Bunn, Langlie, and Figueroa all reached to load them up with no outs. Five walks, a hit by pitch, a wild pitch, and two sacrifice flies were how the Bucs did their damage. | Barry 13, FSC 0
NOTEWORTHY (Game Two):
  • Harper Bunn has more than doubled her best on base streak currently sitting at 15 games.
  • Sarah Langlie is right behind sitting at 14 straight.
  • Alexis Martin earned her sixth win of the year throwing four innings, giving up just three hits, striking out two, and not allowing a run.
  • Daniella Nino made her collegiate debut with an inning of work, sitting down all three batters faced.
  • 56 of Barry's 60 runs scored this season have come with two outs.
  • This is the fourth run-rule victory of the year.
  • This is the most runs scored this season on offense (13).
  • It is the first shutout for the Bucs.
  • Longest win streak in the Sean Cotter era (nine) and longest since 2015.
  • Best start in SSC play through three series since 2012 (8-1).
ON THE HORIZON
Barry will take a break from Sunshine State Conference action during spring break. First traveling to Viera to play three games at the Space Coast Games starting March 4.
