Pitching and Heads Up Base Running Gives Softball Edge in Home Opening Sweep

Barry upsets #19 Wingate in home opener

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. In their home debut from Buccaneer Field on Friday afternoon, Barry Softball kicked off Parent's Weekend with a double-header sweep. It was highlighted by an upset victory over no. 19 Wingate.

HOW IT HAPPENED (Wingate)
  • B3 | Mya Tucker got Barry on the board first using her wheels to make it all the way around the bases in one play. A bunt single turned into a run for the Bucs courtesy of an arrant throw. | Barry 1, Wingate 0
  • B5 | Sofia Chamorro got the inning started with a leadoff single to center field. Jadyn Rogers than came in to pinch run and scored on a double to left center from Tucker. Sarah Langlie than delivered a full count single to right field for more insurance. | Barry 3, Wingate 0
  • T7 | Wingate did not go away easily starting off the inning with back to back base hits. Alexis Martin came in to relief Samantha Rosenberger and quickly got two outs. The Bulldogs strung together another pair of singles to get their first run on the board. A lineout to third base would eventually end the game. | Barry 3, Wingate 1
NOTEWORTHY (Wingate)
  • The freshmen duo of Tucker and Langlie took over recording, three of Barry's four hits in the game. They were responsible for all three runs, driving them in and scoring them.
  • It was Tucker's first career multi-hit game, going 2-for-2.
  • Wingate outhit Barry seven to four.
  • Rosenberger got her second win of the year, nearly going the distance, allowing five hits, one earned run, while striking out two and giving up just one free pass.
  • Caroline Figueroa extended her on base streak to four, drawing two walks.
  • Alexis Martin picked up the save in her first appearance.
  • Wingate stranded seven runners on the bases to Barry's three.
  • It was the first matchup between the teams since 2022, where Barry won the game 5-1.
HOW IT HAPPENED (Colorado-Mines)
  • B3 | Barry once again was able to get on the board first as an error by the Orediggers third baseman allowed Jadyn Rogers to be the leadoff baserunner, advanncing to second on the errant throw. Tucker added another base hit to her day with a bunt single. Langlie came through right after and singled down the right field line and mad eit a 2-0 game. Harper Bunn continued with the short game and forced an error from the pitcher that scored Langlie. | Barry 3, Colorado-Mines 0
  • T5 | The Oredigger gathered their first run on a throwing error from the Buccaneer shortstop. | Barry 3, Colorado-Mines 1
  • B5 | The 9-1 punch of Tucker and Langlie delivered the fourth run of the game as Tucker singled and Langlie followed with a double to bring her in. | Barry 4, Colorado-Mines 1
  • B6 | A four-run sixth put the game out of reach, Mac Stone-Folmar singled to kick the inning off, then stole second. A two-out rally began shortly after when the first baseman bobbled the ground ball to extend the inning. Tucker than came through and singled up the middle. Langlie recorded another double tha brought in two. Bunn capped it off with a single up the middle. | | Barry 8, Colorado-Mines 1
NOTEWORTHY (North Georgia)
  • Alexis Martin earned her first start and the win going the distance. Martin allowed just four hits, no earned runs, struck out seven and walked two.
  • Tucker recorded her second multi-hit game on the day going 3-for-3 with three runs scored.
  • Langlie was not far behind going 3-for-4 with five RBI and two runs scored.
  • Caroline Figueroa had her second multi-hit game on the year going 2-for-4, she has reached base safely in all five games this season.
  • Six of the nine starters recorded a hit.
  • It was the most runs and most hits on the year so far with eight and 11, respectively.

ON THE HORIZON
Barry returns to Buccaneer field in day two of a four day weekend stint. They will play a double-header with game ine against East Stroudsburg at 12:00pm and the a rematch against Colorado-Mines at 6:00 p.m.
