Women's Basketball Gets Revenge On The Lions

ST. LEO, Fla. --  The Barry Buccaneers avenged an earlier loss at home with a 82-61 drubbing of the Saint Leo Lions at the Bowman Center on Wednesday.

SUMMARY:

  • 1Q - The Bucs led 10-6 with just under four minutes left in the first period when they went on a 9-0 run to build a commanding lead. Although the Lions made runs, they never led in the game. | Barry 19, Saint Leo 8
  • 2Q - Audrey Jennings hit a three-pointer with 7:30 to play that put the Bucs up by 15, 27-12. The Lions, though turned around and scored nine straight to cut the lead to six. Vanessa McManus hit a triple of her own with 1:47 left in the quarter to cut the lead to five, but that was a close as the Lions would get the rest of the way. | Barry 34, Saint Leo 28
  • 3Q - Barry led by six with 4:37 left in the third quarter, but they held the Lions to just one bucket the rest of the way as part of a 14-2 run at pused the lead to 18 at the final break. | Barry 60, Saint Leo 42
  • 4Q - Barry worked with a lead near 20 for most of the final period. The Lions cut the lead to 17 on sever5al occasions, the last on a three-pointer by Taydra Simpson with just under two minutes to play. But Jennings keyed a 7-3 run to close out the game and give Barry the 21-point win.  | Barry 82, Saint Leo 61

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Jennings topped all players with 24 points. She hit 9-of-18 from the floor, 3-of-5 from three-point range and 3-of-3 from the line.
  • Kaliyah Morales chipped in 16 points and four assists, While Kayla Lindsey added 13 points.
  • McManus led the Lions with 19 points and Jumoke Adaramoye added 10.
  • Aijah Palmore had 11 rebounds and Colleen Bucknor had 10 as Barry out-rebounded the Lions 52-32, leading to a 13-4 edge in second-chance points.
  • In addition to the edge on the glass, the Bucs owned the paint, out-scoring Saint Leo 52-26 near the basket.
  • The loss was the ninth straight for the Lions, since their victory in The Shores.

ON THE HORIZON:
The Bucs face off with the Florida Tech Panthers on Saturday, Feb. 8.
