Softball Extends Win Streak to Six With Sweep of Tigers

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. Barry Softball welcomed the Tigers of Edward Waters to Buccaneer Field in their return home on Wednesday evening. The Buccaneers swept the double-header outscoring the Tigers 14-4.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME ONE):
  • B3 | Sarah Langlie delivered a two-out double to center field to bring home the first run of the game. Shelby Prevatte scored off her leadoff single to right field. | Barry 1, EWU 0
  • B5 | The insurance runs came in the bottom of the fifth when four straight reached base. Harper Bunn drew the one-out walk. Sarah Langlie then singled up the middle and both runners reached an extra base on the throw. With two  ducks on the pond, Caroline Figueroa delivered a single up the middle to score them both. Bri Pellicone came in as a pinch runner, stole second and then scored on a single from Brooklyn Rushton. | Barry 4, EWU 0
  • T6 | Edward Waters made a rally to bring their deficit within one. Five straight hits put the rally together. Isabel Vera came in to relief and shutdown the threat, stranding two base runners. | Barry 4, EWU 3
NOTEWORTHY (GAME ONE):
  • Alexis Martin got the start and improved her record to 4-1 on the season. Martin threw 5.1 innings, gave up six hits, three earned runs, and tied her season-high in strikeouts with seven.
  • Vera threw 1.2 innings of relief and allowed just one hit. She has not allowed an earned run in her last three appearances.
  • Sarah Langlie and Mac Stone-Folmar both collected multi-hit games. 
  • All four runs scored came with two outs for Barry, as the team hit .500 in two-out situations.
  • Barry stole a season high five bases as a team.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME TWO):
  • T1 | A Barry error led to the Tigers only run of the game and gave them their first lead. | Barry 1, EWU 0
  • B1 | The lead did not last long as Barry scored eight in the bottom half of the inning. All runs came with two outs as the Bucs batted threw the order. Mac Stone-Folmar hit her third triple in four games to keep the momentum going, scoring two runs. Sofia Chamorro singled right behind to bring her home. A walk drawn by Maggie Boyd and hit by pitch to Becka Mellor loaded the bases. Mya Tucker singled to left first and brought home two. Langlie singled up the middle to cap the inning scoring two more. | Barry 8, EWU 1
  • B3 | Two more runs set this one out of reach and into run-rule territory. Langlie once again delivered with two outs, doubling to left field and scoring Mellor and Bunn. | Barry 10, EWU 1
NOTEWORTHY (GAME TWO):
  • Besides the two hits in the first, only one Tiger reached base in the remaining four innings via a walk. no other hits were recorded.
  • Samantha Rosenberger got the start throwing two innings, allowing just two hits, one run, and striking out three.
  • Haelee Angelico came in relief and earned the win throwing three innings, allowing no hits, just one base runner and punching out three.
  • Six of the nine starters earned a hit. Langlie led the way going perfect at the plate, 3-for-3 with four RBI.
  • Mya Tucker also had a multi-hit game going 2-for-3 with two RBI. 
  • This is the second game that Barry has reached double digit runs in a game. 
  • Stone-Folmar rides an eight game hitting streak.
  • Bunn has reached base 12 straight games, Langlie is right behind with 11, and Stone-Folmar is at 10.

ON THE HORIZON

Barry will stay at home for the week and head into their third Sunshine State Conference series against Florida Southern begining on Friday, February 28.
