Baseball Drops Finale To Cougars

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers dropped the finale of their series with the Columbus State Cougars 10-3 in baseball action at Feinbloom Field on Sunday.

SUMMARY:

  • T3 - After swapping zeros in the first two innings, the Cougars pushed across four runs on six hits against Barry starter Mason Blocker (0-1) in the third. Ian King, Cody Ferguson, Warrick Wilmot and Bryce Knox all had RBI singles in the frame. | CSU 4, Barry 0
  • B4 - The Bucs got two runs back in the fourth. Jimmy Bruno was hit by Cougar starter Ryan Suppa to lead off the inning and Harry Vargas Seguera reached on an error by Ferguson. Kendry Noriega drove in Bruno with a single to left center and Felix Diax plated Vargas Seguera by punching a hit through the left side. | CSU 4, Barry 2
  • T6 - The cougars beat up on reliever Sean Driscoll in the sixth. Luke Miller doubled down the right field line to plate two runs and later scored on an error. Cayden Evans blasted a two-run homer. | CSU 9, Barry 2
  • B8 - Vargas Seguera and Noriega hit back-to-back doubles, leading off the eighth. | CSU 9, Barry 3
  • T9 - King closed the scoring with a an RBI single in the ninth. | CSU 10, Barry 3

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Suppa (2-1) worked seven innings, allowing three runs (two earned) on nine hits and struck out five to earn the win for CSU.
  • Blocker gave up four runs on eight hits and a walk in three innings.
  • Diaz went 3-for-4, capping an 8-for-12 weekend to lead the Bucs at the plate.
  • Bruno and Noriega also rapped out three hits. 
  • Evans led the Cougars, going 4-for-5 with a double, homer and two RBI.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs open Sunshine State Conference play next weekend, hosting the Embry-Riddle Eagles.
