Barry Swimming Stays Strong At SSC Championships

Several school records are broken after today

OCALA, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers get the opportunity to taste gold at the SSC championship this week, they will be competing along with other rival schools such as Nova Southeastern, The University of Tampa, Lynn University, Florida Southern, Florida Institute of Technology, and Rollins.

The Barry Buccaneers had two top-3 finishes at the SSC championships with an exciting day in Ocala. The matches began with the Men's and Women's 100 yard Butterfly, Diana Suprun would post a time of 56.74, not only setting a new school record but also qualifying her for the Division II NCAA Championships. Roland Nagy and David Szlobodnyik would race the men's 100 Butterfly as well putting up good results. The Barry women were unable to qualify in the finals for the 400 IM, on the men's side, Balazs Ament was able to put up 3:59.92 time, shaving off a second from his preliminary time and setting a new school record. Milosz Mencel and Jacopo Lanzo had a great day for the Bucs, placing 3rd and 6th in the A final respectively and posting 1:35.87 and 1:37.29, shattering the previous school record and qualifying both of the swimmers for the NCAA Championships. The Barry women were unable to qualify in the finals for the 200 Free. The matches ended with the Men and Women's 400 Medley, in which the Bucs A teams would finish in 6th and 7th place respectively, the Barry Men's B team would also finish 15th. Barry finishes the day placed 6th and 7th in the Men's and Women's ranking at the event, with scores of 167 and 71.

place with Milosz Mencel placing 3rd in the 200 Free and the Men's 400 Medley Relay finishing 6th. Ament, Nagy, and Suprun also posted solid performances in individual events.

Qualifiers

  • The Buccaneers would have three athletes qualify for the NCAA Division II Championship races, these three being Diana Suprun with her qualifying 56.74 time in the women's 100 Fly, joining her will be the duo of Balazs Ament and Milosz Mencel. Repeating their qualification yesterday, they would have a respective 1:35.87 and 1:37.29 in the 200 Free event.

        • Jacopo Lanzo: 1:37.29 (6th Place, 13 Points, Qualified for the Division II NCAA Championships)
