Men's Basketball Gets Back In The Win Column

The Bucs defeat Lees-McRae to cut a three game losing streak

LAKELAND, Fla. --  The Barry University Men's Basketball team kicked off the Century Retail Christmas Classic hosted by Florida Southern with a win over Lees-McRae on Friday evening. It ends a three-game losing streak by the Buccaneers. Five players scored in double-figures to help lead the dominant 23-point victory.

SUMMARY:

  • 1H - Deon Perry got the scoring going, drilling the first three-point basket. A 20-8 run then gave the Buccaneers distance on the scoreboard. Jose Benitez sank a three to make it s seven point game at the break. Tarrance Warren had 10 points, with Perry and Benitez had eight each in the half. Barry shot 42-percent from behind the arc sinking nine threes, compared to just the one three point basket from LMC. I Barry 45, LMC 38
  • 2H - Marko Šarenac sniped a three to get the Bucs back into a double digit lead to open up the second half. Barry trailed for the first time all game with nine minutes remaining. From that point the Buccaneers went on a 26-2 run to close it out and earn the blowout victory. Lees-McRae missed their final 10 shots. Warren led the scoring in the half once again wtih 12, Sarenac followed with 11 and Perry had 10. NOTEWORTHY:

  • Warren led the team once again with 22 points and added three steals.
  • Four other Bucs joined him in double figures: Perry (18) and Sarenac (17), joining off the bench was Stanley (14) and Benitez (10).
  • Saranec had a double-double with a career-high 20 rebounds. Third most in a game in Buccaneer history, just the third 20-rebound game ever.
  • Benitez scored his first double-digit game, adding six assists.
  • The 17 3-point baskets made tie for a team season-high.
  • It tied a team season-high with 49 boards.
  • Barry led in bench support and second chance points.

ON THE HORIZON:
Barry will end the Century Retail Christmas Class against Bentley on Saturday evening with a 5:00 p.m. tip.
