Volleyball Ends Regular Season on High Note

ST. LEO, Fla.   The fourth-ranked Barry Buccaneers ended the regular season with a sweep of Saint Leo on the road to close out Sunshine State Conference action. The Buccaneers finish in second in the SSC for the second year in a row. It is the ninth straight victory over the Lions, dating back to 2021.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Set One - To jno surprise the match started with a kill off the attack of Valeriya Kozlova. Saint Leo then committed four straight attacking errors that gave Barry the early 5-0 lead. After the Lions first point, the Buc scored on five straight kills to put the set out of hand with a 10-1 lead. Both teams traded service errors to end the set. Kozlova and Sofya Sinkova led the way with five and four kills, respectively. Saint Leo had just five kills and hit -.094. barry had a 92% sideout rate going 12-13. | Barry 25, SLU 12
  • Set Two - The Buccaneers scored 10 straight points after trailing 2-1 to make it 11-2. Varvara Osychenko held service throughout the run and had two service aces. Back to back Lions errors ended the set to give Barry a 2-0 match lead. Kozlova had seven kills in the set, the lone block came from off a solo from Ester Pushkarov. Baarry hit .462 with just one attacking error on 17 kills. | Barry 25, SLU 15
  • Set Three - It was an even set to start out, but the Bucs used a couple multi-point runs to gain space. Pushkarov called game with the final kill. Kozlova once again had seven kills in the sest hitting .700. The Barry brick wall was up for five blocks. The Lions hit sub-100 with nine kills. | Barry 25, SLU 16

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Kozlova led the match with 19 kills on just one attacking error in 34 attempts for a .529 swing percentage.
  • Sinkova got the start and delivered eight kills, five digs, and a block.
  • Gaia Riedmüller had 13 digs to hold the back row.
  • Petra Brkicic held down the setting duties with a match-high 21.
  • It is the eighth time this season Barry scores 40-plus kills in a three match set.

UP NEXT:

Barry willl look ahead to the NCAA South Regional beginning December 4th, time and location are to be determinied in the selecction show on Monday evening.
