Women's Basketball Falls In Battle Of The Bucs

BOCA RATON, Fla. --  The Barry Buccaneers dropped the Battle Of The Buccaneers, falling 49-46 to the Christian Brothers Buccaneers in the de Hoernle Center in the Sunshine State Conference/Gulf South Conference Crossover Women's Basketball Tournament on Saturday.

SUMMARY:

  • 1Q - The first period was a nip-and-tuck affair with three ties and three lead changes. Barry hopped out to a four-point lead on a fast-break basket from Paola Pareja Xargayo with 6:23 left. But CBU went on a 6-1 run over the next four minutes to take a one-point lead at 2:30 pm a jumper from Maria Braga. Braga then hit a three-pointer and the Bucs added a free throw for the lead at the break. | CBU 15, Barry 11
  • 2Q - The second quarter saw two more ties and four lead changes. Barry opened with a 7-2 run to take an 18-17 lead on a jumper from Kendall Parker at 7:54. CBU surged back out on top by four on a basket from Emily Sawyer at 3:21. Parker cut the lead to two on the next possession, but nether team scored the rest of the period, until Braga hit a buzzer beater.| CBU 29, Barry 25
  • 3Q - Christian Brothers led all the way in the third period, after opening the frame on a 7-0 run. Barry timmed it to three on a triple by Parker with 2:59 left, but CBU answered with an Alice Conrad three-pointer and she added 1-of-2 from the line for a seven-point margin. | CBU 44, Barry 37
  • 4Q - Barry held CBU without a basket in the fourth quarter, but CBU hit 5-of-6 from the line to hold onto their lead. | CBU 49, Barry 46

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Parker led all scorers with 15 points, while Pareja Xargayo added 10.
  • Braga led CBU with 11 points.
  • CBU out-rebounded the Bucs 14-8 on the offensive end, leading to an 11-3 edge in second-chance points.

ON THE HORIZON:
Barry returns home on Monday, Nov. 17 to face the Janes of Puerto Rico-Puerto at 6:00 pm on Cesar Odio Court.
