ORLANDO - Barry University freshman keeper Marlen Hernandez earned Sunshine State Conference women's soccer defensive player of the week for Sept. 28-Oct. 4.
Hernandez repeats as Defensive Player of the Week after holding Palm Beach Atlantic and Embry-Riddle scoreless while making 10 saves. The Austin, Texas native tallied four saves while facing 17 total shots and three corner kicks in a 0-0 draw at PBA. In a 0-0 result with the Eagles, who received votes in the latest United Soccer Coaches national poll, Hernandez totaled six saves while facing 13 shots and three corners. The weekly award is her second this season.
The Bucs, who have now posted six straight shutouts, take on the conference's top offense in the 13th-ranked Nova Southeastern Sharks on Wednesday, Oct. 8 in Davie, Fla.
