Men's Soccer Loses To Spartans On Late Penalty Kick

TAMPA, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers lost 2-1 to the Tampa Spartans in Sunshine State Conference men's soccer action at Pepin Stadium on Saturday night.

SUMMARY:

  • 27:39 - Barry broke out on top on a lovely counterattack goal from Lucas Costa. After the Sprtans won a free kick near midfield, Tampa keeper Alex Hare came out to take the kick. The Bucs won the free ball in the box and Juan Pablo Gorrin snaked a feed up the middle to a racing Costa who slipped the ball past Hare before he could recover.  | Barry 1, Tampa 0
  • 68:41 - The Spartans tied the game in the 69th minute. The Spartans pressed up and Rodrigo Jones sent in a cross from the left side to Dion Ruffo Luci, who curled his shot back to the near post and past keeper Djordje Mihajlovic for the equalizer. | Barry 1, Tampa 1
  • 73:22 - The Spartans used the big leg of Hare to start another counterattack after a free kick. The Spartans flicked the ball into the box where the Bucs' Juan Santana tripped up Luci. Lopez converted the panalty kick for the game-winner. | Tampa 2, Barry 1

  • Tampa out-shot Barry 13-10, but the Bucs held a 6-4 edge on goal.
  • Hare stopped five shots, giving up one goal to earn the win.
  • Mihajlovic had two saves and conceded two goals.
