Barry Swimming Falls Narrowly to St. Thomas

Many standout performances from the Bucs top players

MIAMI, Fla. -- The Barry Swimming team continued their play in Miami Shores this time against St. Thomas (FL) in their second dual meet of the 2025 spring season. The Buccaneers would lose narrowly in close match against St. Thomas(FL). They showcased strong individual and relay performances, with Diana Suprun and Evelin Zbisko standing out notably for the women and Matthew McLean, Roland Nagy, and Balazs Ament leading the men once again. The Bucs demonstrated remarkable depth and competitive spirit, pushing St. Thomas (FL) to a closely contested meet despite their loss.

The women's side had another standout from the team's ace, Diana Suprun as she continued to impress, claiming first in the 50-yard freestyle (25.53) and delivering a commanding performance in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.96). Evelin Zbisko excelled across multiple events, securing first place in the 200 butterfly (2:17.47), 100 butterfly (1:00.79), and 400 IM (4:39.60), showing her versatility and endurance that have improved over the season. Kate Rutledge also shone brightly in the distance events, placing first in the 500 freestyle (5:37.17) and second in the 1000 freestyle (11:27.45). The women's relay teams added to the strong showing, with Barry A claiming first in the 200 medley relay (1:53.97) and the 400 freestyle relay (1:44.92).

HIGHLIGHTS (Women)

The men's side had standout performances from their top players, Roland Nagy and Balazs Ament, they led the charge, each securing multiple wins for the team. Nagy dominated the backstroke events, winning the 100 backstroke (53.73) and 200 backstroke (1:53.03), while also contributing to Barry's second-place finish in the 200 medley relay (1:37.79). Ament delivered a stellar meet, taking first in the 100 breaststroke (57.65), 200 breaststroke (2:07.83), and 400 IM (4:53.27). Distance swimmer Matthew McLean once again showed his endurance with a win in the 1000 freestyle (10:26.30) and a second-place finish in the 500 freestyle (5:02.17). In the sprints, Louis Ainley claimed first in the 50 freestyle (21.49), while the Barry A team secured victory in the 400 freestyle relay (1:27.72).

The Bucs will have little rest before getting ready to their rivals, Lynn and Tampa, at the Miami Dade North Aquatics Center on Saturday, January 18.
