The Buccaneers were picked to finish 10th in the Sunshine State Conference pre-season poll. Barry went 6-7-3, 2-6-2 in the SSC last season under Tafadzwa Ziyenge. Harris took over the program in March and has brought in 15 new players, to compliment the 17 returners. Senior keeper Maya Caon is one of the top returners, after going 4-4-3 in 13 games with three shutouts, a 0.77 goals against average and 79.5 save percentage. Junior midfielder Julene Urkidi led the team with five assists, while senior forward Alia Jaidi topped the squad with four goals. Honora Kahwach, Anabel Toledo and Alexa-Renee Garcia all return with starting experience in the defensive third. Newcomers Jenny Skogmo, Olivia Bradley, Moa Svensson, Ashley Finn, Adizatu Mustapha, Gabriela Gracia, Catherine Cabrera, Arion Newby and Madeline Barker all will look to make an impact early.
Edward Waters comes in off a 9-6-2 campaign last year and an NCAA Division II independent. One of their losses was a 7-1 defeat to Barry on Oct. 31. Senior keeper Sheila Pascal returns between the pipes for the Tigers. She went 6-5-1 last year with a 2.27 goals against average, two shutouts and a 65.2 save percentage. Senior midfielder Dahien Cabrera led the team with 16 goals and 35 points. Senior defender Claudia Mate topped the team with seven assists.
The Warriors are already 0-1-0 on the season, having lost to NAIA #8 Keiser 5-0 on Aug. 29. Last season, they went 2-15-0, 2-12-0 in the Sun Conference. The Warriors will be working in a new goal keeper this year, but defenders senior Ella Campbell and junior Thea Roque return in the defensive third.
