Softball Swept At Nova Southeastern

DAVIE, FLA. - Despite matching host Nova Southeastern in hits during the opening game of Saturday's Sunshine State Conference doubleheader and outhit the Sharks in the second outing, the Barry University softball team concluded its 2024 regular season with a 3-1, 7-5 setback.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1)
  • B1| Leading off the frame with a single, NSU took an early 1-0 lead off a two-out single.
  • B2| A two-out triple extended the Sharks' lead before a base hit added a second run and created a 3-0 score.
  • T3| Barry took advantage of a NSU error to score a run and make it 3-1. 
NOTEWORTHY (GAME 1)
  • Mac Stone-Folmar scored a run.
  • Samantha Rosenberger got the start, allowing three runs off four hits in 1.2 innings of work.
  • Alexis Martin held NSU off the scoreboard for 4.1 innings without allowing a hit.
  • For Nova, Smith scored two runs while Allen pitched a complete game with one unearned run allowed and eight strikeouts.
  • Both teams recorded four hits.
  • NSU recorded two errors, resulting in one run scoring for Barry.
  • Barry left four runners on base while the host stranded five.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2)
  • T1| Caroline Figueroa powered Barry to an early lead off a two-run home run.
  • B1| NSU capitalized on a Barry error to score a run and make it 2-1.
  • B2| A two-out single after back-to-back hit by pitches evened the score at 2-2.
  • B3| A pair of base hits sandwiching a sacrifice bunt propelled the host to a 3-2 advantage.
  • B4| A Bucs' error resulted in three runs scoring and extending NSU's lead to 6-2.
  • T5| A two-out double from Paige White scored a pinch-running Becka Mellor to make it 6-3.
  • T6| Keeping the inning alive via a two-out double, Brooklyn Rushton scored off a Cassandra Lee single to create a 6-4 score.
  • B6| NSU pushed their lead to 7-4 off a two-out double.
  • T7| Sofia Chamorro scored Alexis Toledo with a sacrifice fly to create the final score. 
NOTEWORTHY (GAME 2)
  • It is the first time this season that Barry has been swept in a SSC series.
  • Figueroa went 2-2 with two walks and her second home run of the weekend.
  • Toledo went 3-4 with one run scored.
  • Lee went 2-4 with one run scored and one RBI.
  • Maci Barnhart tossed 4.0 innings with six runs allowed, three earned, off seven hits.
  • Martin tossed 2.0 innings with one run allowed off three hits.
  • For NSU, Russo went 3-4 with two runs scored while Drogemull threw a complete game with five runs allowed.
  • Barry boasted 14 hits while Nova tallied 10.
  • Barry committed three errors which resulted in three runs for NSU.
  • Barry left 10 runners on base while the Sharks stranded eight.
