Baseball Rallies For Senior Day Win Over Sharks

Senior Murgo gets the win and Noriega drives in the winner

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers rallied for a 5-4 win over the Nova Southeastern Sharks on Senior Day Saturday night at Feinbloom Field.

SUMMARY:

  • T2 - The Sharks scored first after Henry Wallen was hit by pitch and scored on a single by Jorge Braceras. | NSU 1, Barry 0
  • T4 - Boris Peña hit a lead-off homer. | NSU 2, Barry 0
  • T5 - The Sharks extended the lead to 4-0, scoring one run on an error and one on a single by Wallen. | NSU 4, Barry 0
  • B5 - Barry did all their damage in the bottom of the fifth off Sharks starter Alex Valentine. Savi Delgado led off with a homer and Nick Toms followed with a double to left center. Brandon Sanchez was hit by a pitch and then he and Toms worked a double steal. Evan Wickeri doubled to left center, cutting the lead to one. After Forchic reached on a bunt, then stole second and Wickeri tied the game on a wild pitch. Noriega ripped a double down the line to score Forchic and give Barry the lead. | Barry 5, NSU 4

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Dominic Murgo III (6-1) worked four innings, allowing two runs (one earned) on five hits and a walk. He stuck out two. 
  • Valentine (3-3) took the loss for NSU. He had held the Bucs scoreless on one hit through four innings, but in the fifth, he gave up five runs on five hits. He walked two and struck out three.
  • Federico Zapata worked a scoreless ninth, despite the lead-off runner reaching on an error and making it all the way to third base. The save was his second of the series and ninth of the season, equaling his total from last year.
  • Wickeri had a two-run double, while Deladgo added a homer and a double. Noriega also had two hits for Barry. 
  • Braceras, Peña and Bryan Loriga each had two hits for NSU.
  • With the win, the Bucs clinch the SSC series win, as well as the overall season series.
