HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Bucs quickly took the #2 doubles 6-3, but the Sharks won 6-3 at #1.
  • Barry's Gasparin and Leweurs battled to a 7-6(1) tie-break win to clinch the doubles point for the Bucs.
  • Barry led after doubles 1-0 for the 21st time this year.
  • In singles, NSU quickly evened the match 1-1 as Davies knocked off Crespo 6-0, 6-1 at No. 3.
  • Espinal made to 2-1 NSU by beating Michalitsch at No. 1.
  • Viktoriia Dema tied things up again by rallying back from a first set loss to beat Weir 1-6, 6-3, 6-4.
  • But the Sharks won at No. 5 and No. 6 to snap the Bucs string of championships at six.

NOTEWORTHY:

  • The match snapped a 12-match winning streak over the Sharks, including three this season.
  • The match was just the second time since the scoring change of 2018-19 reduced the doubles to one point that Barry had won the doubles, but lost the match by dropping four singles matches.
  • It was just the sixth time since head coach Avi Kigel's second year in 2009-10 that Barry has lost four singles matches.
  • Versier's 34-match winning streak ended in the loss.

That ends the season.
