Men's Tennis Downs West Florida In South Regional Semifinal

VALDOSTA, Ga. --  The No. 4 nationally-ranked, No. 4 seeded Barry Buccaneers men's tennis defeated No. 7 nationally-ranked, No. 5 seeded West Florida 4-1 in the South Regional semifinals on Monday morning at the VSU Tennis Courts.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • The Buccaneers top flight doubles team of Ferreria/D. Rieme defeated Costa/Ekenros of West Florida 6-0 and the Bucs No. 2 doubles team defeated Duran/Rondon 6-3, to claim the doubles point. 
  • West Florida took the first singles point, Sotelo defeated Lynch at No. 2 singles. 
  • The Bucs responded with a victory at No. 4 singles, Riedel took the victory in straight-sets. 
  • Caill won in straigts-sets at No. 6 singles to give the Bucs a 3-1 lead. 
  • D. Rieme clinched the championship game birth, coming back from down a set to win in a three-setter at No. 3 singles. 

NOTEWORTHY:

  • This is the Bucs 29th NCAA tournament appearance. 
  • The Bucs will look to advance to the national finals for the 25th time. 

ON THE HORIZON:

The Buccaneers will take on No. 3 nationally-ranked, No. 1 seeded Valdosta State in the South Regional Championship tomorrow, May 14, at 1:00 pm, at the VSU Tennis Center.
