Barry University Athletics hosted the Ninth Annual Bucky Awards on Wednesday, May 1, 2024.
The Bucs celebrated the past year's accomplishments of the student-athletes with awards for Newcomer of the Year, Most Improved Athlete, Champions In Life, Career Achievement, Best Game, and Best Play, and the Iron Buc Awards. In addition, the varsity and club teams recognized their individual award winners.
Newcomer of the Year

The freshman from Chelyabinsk, Russia, was named the Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year. She ended her rookie season at Barry ranked in the top-three of the conference in kills per set with a 4.03 per-set rate that placed third in the league and 24th nationally and 0.40 service aces which sits second. On the defensive end, she chipped in 2.97 digs per set. She recorded 14 double-doubles during the 2023 season, eclipsing 20 kills three times with a career-high 25 against Nova Southeastern on Nov. 10. |
Most Improved Athlete  Â

The sophomore from Miami graduated from the junior varsity program and has installed himself as the team's second baseman and lead off hitter on the varsity. He leads the Sunshine State Conference in batting, hits, and doubles and is among the team leaders in nearly every offensive category, including homers, runs, walks, stolen bases and RBI. |

Men's Soccer
The men's soccer team had an outstanding season, winning both the Sunshine State Conference regular season and tournament titles and advancing to the Round of 16 in the NCAA Tournament. In addition, 32 members of the team earned spots on the Sunshine State Conference Fall Commissioner's Honor Roll, with five posting perfect 4.0 GPAs, including senior captain Iker Berruezo who was named Academic All-America. As a team, they posted a 3.5 GPA in the fall while also participating in several community service activities including Barry Cares, working with homeless children from south Florida. |
Career Achievement

The senior from Nice, France, has won 30 straight singles matches, in compiling a 38-3 overall record, as Barry has captured three NCAA Divsion II National Championships, three ITA Indoor Nationals, three Sunshine State Conference regular season championships and four SSC Tournament titles. |

Men's Golf Posts Record Performance At SSC Tournament
Men's golf turned in a performance for the ages in winning the 2023 Sunshine State Conference Tournament. The Bucs dominated the competition, breaking many team and individual records. They shot a combined 35-under for the tournament, smashing their own conference record by 20 strokes. Individually, AJ Ewart captured his 14th career medal, and first conference title, with a minus 12, breaking the conference mark by four strokes. His third round 63 tied his own record for the best SSC Tournament round in program history. |

Facing the nation's top-ranked team, Gabe Hernandez took the ball coast-to-coast and slammed down a monster dunk in the finals of the Sunshine State Conference Tournament. |
