Baseball Wins Series Opener At Florida Tech

Zapata picks up 16th career save

MELBOURNE, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers beat the Florida Tech Panthers 5-2 at Seminick-Hall Field on Friday night in the opening game of a Sunshine State Conference baseball series.

After Freddy Rodriguez and Evan Wickeri opened the inning with singles, Rodriguez scored on a wild pitch by Florida Tech starter Josh Beck (2-3). NOTEWORTHY:

  • Angel Cespedes (5-2) worked six innings, allowing one run on five hits and two walks to earn his team-leading fifth win of the season.
  • Federico Zapata went 2.1 innings, allowing three walks for his sevent save of the season.
  • Zapata's save tied him with Daniel Broeseker (2015-18) for third place on the program's all-time list with 16.
  • Beck took the loss for the Panthers, allowing three runs on six hits and a walk in 2.1 innings.
  • Santiago, making his first start of the season, went  3-for-4 with two runs and an RBI to lead Barry at the plate.
  • Rodriguez and Wickeri each had two hits.
  • Six different Panthers each had one hit, led by Guzman's home run.
