Baseball Loses To Sailfish

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers lost 9-5 to the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish at Feinbloom Field on Friday night in the opening game of a Sunshine State Conference baseball series.

SUMMARY:

  • T1 - Matt Faranda singled, when to third on a failed pick off attempt and scored on a ground out. | PBA 1, Barry 0
  • B1 -Freddy Rodriguez led off with a double and later scored on a ground out.  | Barry 1, PBA 1
  • T2 - The Sailfish scored three in the second on five hits off starter Joe Morrisey. Trey Miranda had a two-run double and later scored on a single by Faranda. | PBA 4, Barry 1
  • T3 - Catcher Sean Willams hit a solo homer off reliever Dominic Murgo III. | PBA 5, Barry 1
  • B3 - The Bucs tied the game with four runs in the third. They loaded the bases on a single by Rodriguez and walks to Evan Wickeri and Kevin Noriega. Sean Shelly brought in two runs with a single to left. After Nick Toms re-loaded the bases, Brandon Sanchez drew a walk to force in a run and Shelly later scored on a wild pitch. | Barry 5, PBA 5
  • T4 - Nate Housen broke the tie with a three-run homer in the fourth. | PBA 8, Barry 5
  • T5 - Williams scored on an error by Toms after he singled and Jake McNamara followed with a single up the middle. | PBA 9, Barry 5

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Justin Lovell (1-1) worked 3.2 innings in relief of starter Ryan Webster to get the win. He allowed a run on three hits and two walks, but struck out six.
  • Isaac Beebe struck out two in the ninth to earn his first save. 
  • Murgo took the loss for the Bucs, allowing five runs on a nine hits and three walks in six innings.
  • Rodriguez had three of the Bucs' seven hits and scored twice.
  • Williams, who came in batting .211, with 4-for-5 with a homer and three runs scored to lead PBA.
  • McNamara and Faranda each had three hits for the Sailfish.

The series concludes with a doubleheader on Saturday at 1:00 pm.
