Baseball Wins Series With Tritons

Bucs split Saturday doubleheader

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers took their Sunshine State Conference baseball series over the Eckerd Tritons with a doubleheader split at Feinbloom Field on Saturday. The Bucs won game one 6-4, but fell in the nightcap 7-4.

Game 1 - Barry 6, Eckerd 4

  • B1 - Barry jumped on the Tritons hard in the first inning of game one. Braden Forchic had a two-run homer and Kevin Noriega blasted a three-run shot. | Barry 5, Eckerd 0
  • T4 - Cam Collier cut into the lead with a solo homer. | Barry 5, Eckerd 1
  • T5 - Tyler Cox had an RBI double to slice another run off the board. | Barry 5, Eckerd 2
  • B7 - Freddy Rodriguez smashed his team-leading fifth homer of the season leading off the seventh. | Barry 6, Eckerd 2

  • B2 - Rodriguez got the Bucs on the board in the second with a RBI single to score Matthew Menendez. But with runners at second and third, Savi Delgado line a ball up the middle that struck the base umpire, leaving the bases loaded with no runs in and the Tritons got Forchic to ground out to end the inning. | Barry 1, Eckerd 0
  • T6 - Leading 1-0, the Bucs gave up two runs to the Tritons to take the lead. Collier homered down the left field line and Alex Brazer had an RBI double to take the lead. | Eckerd 2, Barry 1
  • B7 - The Bucs staged a two-out rally in the seven. Forchic doubled to left center and scored on a single to right by Evan Wickeri. | Barry 2, Eckerd 2
  • T9 - The Tritons took advantage of a pair of Buccaneer miscues to score five runs in the ninth. | Eckerd 7, Barry 2
  • B9 - Sanchez hit a two-run homer, but with two men on Nick Romagnola struck out Rodriguez and Delgado to end the game. | Eckerd 7, Barry 4

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Frank II Gonzalez finally picked up his first win of the season in the split game in game one. He gave up two runs on five hits and two walks before reaching his pitch count.
  • Federico Zapata got the final two outs to earn his fifth save of the season.
  • Rene Ramos (1-5) took the loss for Eckerd in game one. He worked four innings, settling down after giving up five runs in the first on five hits. He held the Bucs to just one hit and one walk over the next three innings, striking out six. 
  •  Gavin Grubbs improved to 6-0 on the season, despite giving up six hits and six walks in six innings. He allowed only one run and struck out two. 
  • Romagnola got his second save.
  • Aiden Denton (3-3) was saddled with the loss as he gave up five runs in the ninth on five hits. 
  • Wickeri led the Bucs with five hits, including a double.
  • Forchic went 3-for-6 with a double, homer, two runs and two RBI.
  • Kyle Abbott, who went 5-for-5 in game two, had six hits and three RBI for Eckerd. Collier, who hit three solo homers, also drove in three. 

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs face the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish on Tuesday, Mar. 19 in their last non-conference home game of the season.
