Late Rally Propels Softball To Twinbill Split

ST AUGUSTINE, FL. - Trailing by one run and down to their final two outs in their second game of the day at the Flagler Invitational on Saturday afternoon, the Barry University softball team rallied to send the equalizing run home before scoring the game-ending run in extra innings of a 4-3 triumph over Catawba after falling to the host Saints 8-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1)
  • Loading the bases in the bottom of the fourth, Flagler broke the scoreless stalemate off a walk before a two-RBI double extended their lead to 3-0.
  • Taking advantage of a Barry fielding error in the bottom of the sixth to score a run, Flagler used three-straight singles to score three runs before a wild pitch by the Bucs sent another Saint home.
NOTEWORTHY (GAME 1)
  • Taylor Thompson went 1-2 with a walk.
  • Paige White went 1-3 with a double.
  • Alexis Martin tossed a team-high 3.2 innings with six runs allowed, four earned, off seven hits while striking out two batters.
  • For Flagler, Emily Ricci went 2-3 with two RBI and one run scored while Jordan Sheets kept Barry scoreless for 5.0 innings.
  • Barry recorded five hits, Flagler tallied nine.
  • Barry recorded three errors, resulting in two runs scoring.
  • Both sides left five runners on base.
HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 2)
  • A two-out home run by Catawba in the top of the second gave them an early 1-0 lead.
  • Three-straight hits to begin the top of the fourth scored a run for Catawba before a sacrifice fly extended their lead to 3-0
  • Barry made it a one-run game in the bottom of the sixth off a two-RBI double from White that scored Caroline Figueroa and Maggie Boyd.
  • Reaching base on a hit by pitch to begin the bottom of the seventh, Cassandra Lee knotted the score off a Thompson single.
  • Three-straight singles with one out in the bottom of the eighth scored the game-winning run.
NOTEWORTHY (GAME 2)
  • Alexis Toledo went 2-4.
  • Thompson went 1-4 with a RBI.
  • White went 1-2 with two RBI.
  • Mac Stone-Folmar went 1-3 with one RBI.
  • Maci Barnhart threw 7.2 innings with three runs allowed off seven hits while striking out nine batters.
  • For Catawba, Brianna Herring went 2-3 with one RBI and one run scored.
  • Barry recorded 11 hits, Catawba tallied seven.
  • Both sides tallied one error.
  • Barry left seven runners on base while Catawba stranded nine.
