In No Rush(ton); Late Runs Propels Softball To Doubleheader Sweep Of Florida Southern

Lakeland, Fla. - Heading into the bottom of final three innings in both games of Saturday afternoon's doubleheader trailing host Florida Southern, the Barry University softball team rallied to defeat the Mocs twice and secure the Sunshine State Conference series sweep behind scores of 6-5 and 2-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED (GAME 1)
  • B2| Kicking off the stanza with a double, the Mocs used three singles with two outs to score three runs.
  • T3| Starting the frame with a Brooklyn Rushton homer, the Bucs loaded the bases before a walk for Paige White and Alexis Toledo sacrifice fly evened the score. 
  • B3| Florida Southern capitalized on a pair of Barry errors to plate a pair of runs.
  • T5| Keeping the inning alive off a double and single back-to-back with two outs, Barry took advantage of a Florida Southern error to tie the score.
  • T6| Leading off the frame with a triple, Rushton sent Taylor Thompson home on a sacrifice fly to give Barry its first lead of the day.
 
NOTEWORTHY (GAME 1)
  • Rushton went 1-4 with two RBI and a home run.
  • Toledo went 2-3 with one RBI and one run scored.
  • Maci Barnhart earned the win in the circle after holding FSC scoreless for three innings with three strikeouts
  • For Florida Southern, Mikle went 2-4 while Bushnell tallied two RBI and Rogers tossed 5.1 innings with six runs, four earned, off eight hits.
  • Both sides recorded eight hits and two errors, resulting in two runs for both sides.
  • Barry left 10 runners on base while the Mocs stranded eight.
