Baseball Opens SSC Play With Rout Of Moccasins

Bucs push win streak to six games

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers opened Sunshine State Conference baseball play with a 7-1 rout of the Florida Southern Moccasins at Feinbloom Field on Friday night.

SUMMARY:

  • B1 - Barry got on the board first. Savi Delgado singled with one out and went to second on a wild pitch by Mocs' starter Mitchell Leroy (0-1). He scored one out later when Evan Wickeri beat out an infield hit. | Barry 1, FSC 0
  • B2 - The Bucs pounded out five hits to score three runs in the second. Jimmy Bruno, Degado and Kevin Noriega had RBI singles in the frame. | Barry 4, FSC 0
  • B3 - Felix Diaz walked and scored on a single by Christian Maceda. | Barry 5, FSC 0
  • B4 - Freddy ZRodriguez led off with a double to right center and scored with two outs when Wickeri bounced a single up the middle. | Barry 6, FSC 0
  • T5 - Bryce Safferwich led off with a triple off the top of the batting eye and scored on an error. | Barry 6, FSC 1
  • B7 - Wickeri walked with one out and stole second. He went to third on a throwing error by catcher Tilden Agee and scored on a single up the middle by Nick Toms. | Barry 7, FSC 1

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Joe Morrisey (1-0) picked up his first win as a Buccaneer, and 10th career win, with seven strong innings. He held the Mocs to a run on three hits and three walks and struck out nine.
  • Dominic Murgo III worked the final two scoreless innings, giving up a hit and a walk, but striking out two.
  • Leroy got touched for six runs on 11 hits and three walks in five innings.
  • Eight of the nine Bucs recorded hits, including two each for Rodriguez, Delgado, Toms and Maceda.
  • Rodriguez had two doubles, bringing his team-leading total to seven, which also leads the conference.
  • The Bucs went 7-for-16 with runners in scoring position, while Florida Southern was 0-for-5.

ON THE HORIZON:

The series continues with a doubleheader on Saturday, starting at 1:00 pm.
