Baseball Pounds Out 35 Hits In Doubleheader Sweep Of Bobcats

MIAMI SHORES, Fla. -- The Barry Buccaneers pounded out 35 hits and scored 26 runs in a doubleheader sweep of the Frostburg State Bobcats in baseball action at Feinbloom Field on Saturday.

Game 1 - Barry 14, FSU 7

  • T2 - The Bobcats grabbed a early lead. Jackson Schalick was hit by pitch leading off the second inning and scored on a two-out single by Ryan Bouma. | FSU 1, Barry 0
  • B3 - The Bucs tied it in the third, Steven Nitch walked to lead off the inning and scored on a fly ball. | Barry 1, FSU 1
  • B4 - Nitch capped a four-run inning in the fourth with a three-run homer. | Barry 5, FSU 1
  • T5 - Danny Estrada knotted the game at 5-5 with a grand slam. | Barry 5, FSU 5
  • B5 - Braden Forchic broke the tie with a two-run double and later scored on a single by Christian Maceda. | Barry 8, FSU 5

  • B3 - Barry took the lead in the bottom of the frame, sending nine men to the plate to score four runs. Toms, Maceda, Matthew Menendez, Jimmy Bruno and Rodriguez had five straight hits. | Barry 4, FSU 3
  • T4 - Kiple belted a three-run homer and Probst had a solo shot, giving the Bobcats back the lead. | FSU 7, Barry 4
  •  B4 - Diaz led off with a double and Forchic had a bunt single to put runners on the corners. After a fielder's choice by Wickeri scored Diaz, Toms tripled to plate Wickeri and Maceda beat out a bunt hit to tie the game. Barry 7, FSU 7
  • B5 - Brandon Sanchez and Diaz drew walks to start the fifth. Forchic singled to drive in Sanchez. Diaz and Forchic moved up on a wild pitch and scored on a fly ball and single by Kevin Noriega respectively. | Barry 10, FSU 7

NOTEWORTHY:

  • Freshman Felix Arroyo (1-0) got her first career win in relief in game one. He worked 1.2 innings, allowing two runs on a hit and two walks.
  • Nick Vanderhoef worked the final three innings to earn his first save. He gave up two hits and stuck out four.
  • Bryce Hendricks (0-1) took the loss for the Bobcats. In one inning, he allowed three runs on two hits.
  • Aiden Denton (2-0) picked up the win in the night cap. He worked two innings, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk and struck out two.
  • Federico Zapata worked a perfect ninth for his second save. 
  • The Bucs hit .455 in the twin bill. Maceda went 5-for-7 with five RBI.
  • Noriega, Wickeri, Forchic, Diaz and Rodriguez each had four hits. Diaz and Rodriguez had a pair of doubles each.
  • Probst went 5-for-9 for the Bobcats and Bouma went 4-for-7.

ON THE HORIZON:

The Bucs travel to West Palm Beach, Fla., on Tuesday for their first road game of the season at the Palm Beach Atlantic Sailfish.
